Background: Elderly individuals experience a decline in physical function and changes in the cardiovascular system with increasing age, which can increase the risk of developing hypertension. Hypertension in the elderly is often difficult to control and may lead to serious complications if not managed optimally. In addition to pharmacological therapy, safe, easily applicable, and low–side effect nonpharmacological approaches are needed. One such nonpharmacological therapy is foot massage therapy, which helps improve blood circulation, relax muscles, reduce stress, and provide comfort, thereby contributing to the reduction of blood pressure in the elderly. Research Objective: To determine the effectiveness of foot massage therapy in reducing blood pressure among elderly patients with hypertension based on family nursing care in the Kedungmundu Primary Health Care area. Research method: This study employed a case study design with a family nursing care approach. The subjects were elderly patients with hypertension who received routine foot massage therapy according to established procedures. Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the intervention. The results of the study: The results showed a decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure after the administration of foot massage therapy. In addition, the elderly participants reported feeling more relaxed, comfortable, and experienced reduced stress levels. These findings indicate that foot massage therapy is effective as a nonpharmacological nursing intervention in helping to reduce blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension and can be applied in family nursing care. Conclusion: Foot massage therapy has been proven effective as a nonpharmacological nursing intervention in helping to reduce and control blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension.
